Welcome to the Unlock Success with Tom edition of Tom Talks Taxes! I will send an edition with my upcoming education and coaching opportunities three times per year. I hope to see you at one of these events!
If you cannot attend an event but still want to support my work, the best way is to become a paid subscriber to Tom Talks Taxes.
Webinar Education
I have several exciting webinars that I am teaching in the next few months.
72(t) Rule: Substantially Equal Periodic Payments - I decided to teach this course because it is a little-known provision that helps taxpayers leverage their retirement accounts for early retirement or other needed income streams.
Assessment Statute of Limitations - I wanted to teach this course simply because understanding when the IRS and/or taxpayers can assess tax for a particular year is essential to preparation and representation work.
Making and Changing Entity Classification Elections - Now that the OB3 Act has stabilized the tax law, it is a good time to reevaluate how business activities are treated for federal tax purposes. Understanding entity classification elections (and their tax consequences) is critical to the decision-making process.
2025 Federal Tax Update - A tax update will be essential for a successful 2025 tax season! We are offering 6 CE/CPE over two sessions (December 11 and 18).
These webinars are included in our 2025 PASS, which provides 30+ hours of CE/CPE of high-quality tax webinar education through 2025. You will get on-demand access to all the live courses we previously conducted in 2025.
I also have dozens of on-demand webinars on a variety of topics. My One Big Beautiful Bill Act Overview is popular, along with my FREE webinars (yes, they are entirely free) on Engagement Letters (with Sherrill Trovato, EA, USTCP) and Federal Disasters: What You Need to Know.
The Tax Research Process is an excellent option for a webinar that delves deeply into tax research. While artificial intelligence (AI) is a helpful tool for tax research, practitioners must exercise their professional judgment when deciding on tax positions. This course covers everything one needs to do a proper tax research process to make that determination.
In-Person Education
I will co-teach the AICTP Tax Planning Academy in San Diego, CA, from August 20 to 22 and October 27 to 29. Join Dominique Molina, CPA, CTS, and me for a three-day intensive training program on integrating high-value tax planning into your practice.
I have always enjoyed teaching for the CSEA Central Coast Chapter on California's beautiful Central Coast. This year, their seminar will be November 6-7, 2025, and registration will be available soon. Topics, pricing, and registration are here, but the focus will be on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, its planning implications, and issues impacted by the OB3 Act, such as gambling and health savings accounts (HSAs).
I'll be teaching several 2025 tax update courses in person next January. The confirmed events are as follows:
January 12, 2026 - Portland, OR - Oregon Association of Tax Consultants
January 13-14, 2026 - Sacramento, CA - CSEA Sacramento Valley Chapter
January 15-16, 2026 - Rohnert Park, CA - CSEA North Bay Chapter
Group Coaching - Join the Inner Circle
My goal in the Inner Circle membership is to save you hours of tax research, increase your tax knowledge, expand the types of engagements you can accept with confidence, improve your pricing so that you charge what you are truly worth, and challenge you to have a tax practice that prioritizes your health and wellness while giving the taxpayer the best experience and outcome possible.
