I created this Substack newsletter in order to share important federal tax information with the tax community at-large. We are not going to focus on a specific topic or theme — solely topics that interest me and I think you’ll find useful.

No continuing education credits, no footnotes — just good information.

Sometimes I may dive into tax policy and my opinions on tax policy, but most content will be on existing tax law.

I’ll also be sharing articles and education events that I’m doing along with those from other experts I know and trust.

When you sign up, you’ll receive newsletter editions from me at least twice per month.

Paid subscribers will receive:

  • Monthly bonus editions, including “Ask Tom Anything,” where I’ll answer your technical or practice management related questions.

  • The ability to comment on posts and interact with each other on posts. I’ll interact on the posts as well!

  • An invitation to the annual “Tom’s Pre-Season Tax Talk” in January to discuss what you need to know as a tax professional for the upcoming tax season.

  • Additional content as the newsletter grows and expands.

Elite Members are those who want to provide additional support for the newsletter beyond a normal paid subscription.

On the retirement distributions if they are under 59 1/2 to avoid the penalty what are the qualifying factors?

I have a client that wants to do this but as I read it you must have been effected by being sick or loss of earnings from cutbacks or termination during 2020. He experienced neither.

His investment advisor told him he would quality if he thinks he will be effected in 2021.

I am curious about your take on this. Thanks.
