In the Ask Tom Anything edition, I usually write an article related to a question asked in a prior edition. However, with Florida suffering under another hurricane, it is appropriate to review the automatic and discretionary tax relief available when the President declares a federal disaster in a geographic area.
As of August 31, 2023, at 8:00 AM PT, 46 counties in Florida have been declared a disaster area due to Hurricane Idalia. This list will likely expand; frequently check this IRS website for additional relief.
